Password Protected Directories
Learn more on password-protected directories and what they bring to your web site.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which may be accessed only when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people could check out its content. This option may be used for the primary folder of a particular Internet site or exclusively for a certain subfolder in accordance with your preferences. As an example, when you are developing a new website and you don't want people to see it before it's ready, you might want to restrict the access to it altogether, and if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you can password-protect only a certain folder, while the remainder of the website could be seen by everybody. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear in the event that the login details the visitor types in aren't right. Even a direct link to a file shall not work if any folder above it is password-protected.
